Who am I?

My name is Lucas Epstein, a licensed psychologist with a passion for helping people find balance in their lives — Swedish style meets English vernacular. I was born and raised in Sweden but my journey has taken me around the world. This has shaped my approach to therapy, blending the calm, grounded nature of Scandinavian culture with the open, expressive approach often embraced in English-speaking communities.

As a psychologist and therapist, my goal is to create a space where you can feel truly understood and supported. I know that life can sometimes feel overwhelming—whether you’re dealing with stress, depression, relationship difficulties, or a struggle with identity. My role is to help you explore these feelings, understand them better, and work through them at your pace, without any pressure or judgment.

In our work together, I take a flexible, client-centered approach. Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all process; that means I’ll adapt our sessions to fit what works best for you—whether through conversation, practical exercises, or deep reflection. The goal isn’t to find quick fixes, but to create lasting, meaningful change—changes that feel authentic and aligned with who you are..

My methods adapt to your needs, not the other way around! Whether you’re dealing with a specific issue or just feeling stuck, I’m here to help you navigate the path forward. As a licensed psychologist, I draw from evidence-based techniques, a deep understanding of human behavior, and a genuine commitment to helping you thrive.

I'm a native English and Swedish speaker and offer therapy in whichever language you feel most comfortable using.

If you’re ready to take the next step or simply want to learn more about how we might work together, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’d be honored to support you on your journey.

  • I bring a unique perspective to therapy, shaped by my international background and my understanding of both Swedish and English-speaking cultures. This allows me to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and help them navigate cultural expectations with ease. I know the importance of being able to express yourself fully, in your native language, without needing to censure or adapt to whoever’s listening. My approach is non-judgmental with a strong focus on building the client-therapist relationship from the ground up, so that you feel comfortable and seen.

I understand what it's like to navigate cultural expectations or feel caught between worlds, and I work with you to find clarity, build confidence, and fully embrace and develop who you are—quirks and all.

My sessions are laid-back yet focused. You’ll receive both thoughtful insights and actionable strategies that are tailored to your specific needs. These tools will help you better understand yourself, navigate life’s challenges, and build practical skills for lasting change.

I have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychologial challenges, including neuropsychiatric diagnoses (ADHD, autism), trauma and burnout as well as depression, anxiety and personality disorders. I’m experienced in providing support to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including the LGBTQIA+ community, and I strive to create a space where everyone can feel understood and respected.

  • A licensed psychologist is trained and credentialed to provide evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help individuals manage mental health challenges. They have advanced education and clinical experience, which ensures they can accurately assess, diagnose, and treat psychological issues. Working with a licensed psychologist provides a safe, professional environment where clients can expect confidentiality and ethical treatment, as well as accountability and insurance.

  • I hold an MSc in Psychology from Uppsala University and became a licensed clinical psychologist in 2019. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, from neuropsychiatric assessments to providing psychotherapy for mental health concerns like stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. I’ve also worked with organizational behavioural psychology, organized lectures and events as well as lectured on relevant psychological topics myself.

I use a range of evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), all designed to help you better manage your thoughts, emotions and behaviours so you can move toward the life you want.

I am also deeply committed to continually expanding my knowledge and skills, focusing on trauma-informed care, suicide prevention, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive approaches to ensure that my practice is as effective and compassionate as possible for each client.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on helping people identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. The goal is to challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors through actions and exercies. Commonly used to treat anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals accept their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them. It focuses on being present in the moment, clarifying personal values, and committing to actions that align with those values, even in the face of difficult emotions. The goal is to enhance psychological flexibility and improve overall well-being.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that focuses on helping people manage intense emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. It combines acceptance strategies with change-focused techniques. DBT is especially effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder, self-destructive behaviors, and emotional regulation difficulties. The therapy emphasizes mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • "Swenglish" refers to the blend of Swedish and English, a term often used when switching between the two languages in everyday conversation. By naming my therapy practice "Swenglish Therapy," I aim to create a welcoming and inclusive space where clients can feel comfortable expressing themselves fully—whether in Swedish, English, or a mix of both.

I’ve noticed there’s a lack of English-speaking therapists in Sweden, particularly in Stockholm, which can make it hard for English speakers to find the support they need. My goal with Swenglish Therapy is to offer a place where English speakers can find the guidance, connection, and mental well-being support they deserve—without language or cultural barriers.
